When we hear about seasonal vehicle damage, we often hear about winter and the effect snow and even salt can have on the vehicle. Although winter can be rough on a vehicle, Spring can also. Along with the warmer weather comes a lot of other factors, including pollen, bird droppings, tree sap and even bug splatters. Today, we’re talking about common Spring vehicle damage and what you can do to prevent it.
Pollen
Along with Spring comes the lovely allergies and the air full of pollen. Not only can pollen wreak havoc on your nose and eyes, but it can also actually cause damage to your vehicle’s pain as well. Due to the fact that pollen particles are so tiny, they can actually infiltrate small pores in the paint job, releasing acid.
We recommend thoroughly washing your vehicle with soapy water as it can black the acid from properly activating and causing damage.
Bird Droppings
When Spring comes, so does the chirping and singing of the birds. While this may be lovely to listen to, the damage bird droppings can cause to a vehicle are not. Bird droppings contain uric acid and debris which can actually eat through the clear coat.
We recommend promptly wiping away any bird droppings with a wet cloth and parking your vehicle under a covering whenever possible.
Tree Sap
As trees awaken and begin to bloom in the Spring, they also tend to begin dripping sap. This sticky substance can be extremely difficult to remove and cause damage to the car, leaving rough patches in the clear coat and even paint job.
We recommend using alcohol and a microfiber cloth to remove any sap you notice. Parking under a covering can also help avoid tree sap all together.
